After years of wear and tear by kids, dogs, and life, our hardwood floors looked ghastly. The only shine left was under a dog bed and in a closet. The wood had transformed from golden to grimy grey, and I couldn't foresee it ever returning to its resplendent original oakey color. If floors could cry, ours surely would have. At least that would have made them a little shiny for a while.
I was diligent about cleaning them with Murphy's Oil soap, but that only seemed to leave an odd greasy coating on the grey after a while. For the last few years I've been watching them steadily grow uglier. I knew what a pain it would be to have them re-sanded, plus it's expensive to do it right. Besides, our floors are down to the nails, and really can't be re-sanded anymore. No matter how nice the rest o the house looked, the floors always made it look a bit disheveled and dilapidated. What to do?
One day at a school function I met Kellie McCord, a super nice woman who, it turns out, owns a wood refinishing company with her husband Ken and a small team. I looked it up online, and saw that not only do they do cabinets and other woodwork, but floors are a big part of their repertoire. They have a process that doesn't require sanding, and doesn't a long time to do. The literature for their company shows all the steps, from prepping to buffer cleaning to removing "slurry" (oh, nice, I have slurry-producing floors?!) to burnishing to applying multiple coats of finish. The before and after photos were pretty convincing, so I called for a free estimate.
Dave Lantos, one of the company co-owners, arrived at our door right on time and proceeded to listen to what we wanted (I say "we," but mean "I," because my husband would be happy living on packed dirt). He looked around, took measurements, etc. I waited to hear that we were a hopeless case, but far from it! He said that their process could make a huge difference in our floors. Where there was gray they'd do color correction. He was honest about the fact that the process doesn't necessarily correct scratches and won't take care of making everything absolutely perfect, but he was very confident we would love our floors after his crew got done with them.
I got several price options. The more you do, the cheaper per square foot it gets. I was originally going to just do our worst room, our dining room, but realized doing the whole house would be by far the wisest thing to do, economically. Dave didn't put any pressure on us. He left without signing me up for anything. He said I could call him whenever I decided what - if anything - we would want to do. I love his no-pressure style!
OK, this post is becoming way too long, so I'll condense the rest. I decided to do every wood floor in our house. It was the best deal, and it would all be over at one time. The only down side is that you have to move all your furniture somewhere. We managed to cram it all in my husband's tiled office downstairs, the garage, the storage barn in our back yard, and in our tiled kitchen. It was a feat, but we did it!
The project started at 8 a.m. (the crew of three and Dave were all here on time!), and everyone was out of here by 4 p.m.. Yes, the same day! And the floors? A MIRACLE HAPPENED! I'm not sure about all the ins and outs of what they did, because it looks like we have new floors. The grey is golden. The shine is gorgeous. When the house was free of furniture, our daughter walked around in amazement at how the stunning floors "make it look like a mansion!" I still cannot believe these are our floors! It's a 500,000 percent improvement, and no sanding was necessary! And we got to live back upstairs that very day!
We could walk on it with clean socks an hour or two after the last of three coats was on. There was no smell. We slept on air mattresses upstairs that night! Although we could have brought up the furniture earlier, we waited three days to do so in case we scratched anything. The finish takes 7 days to cure - much less than the usual 20 or so days of many finishes. (Dave told us 60 percent of the curing of their finish happens in the first 24 hours.) Apparently it's just as good and strong as - if not stronger than - other finishes. And I love that it doesn't smell. Our dog would have loved it too, but he has sandpaper for paws and between that and his claws, he could have messed up the finish if we brought him up too early. He refused to wear booties (he is a lab and prefers to chew booties and other forms of footwear). So he slept a few nights on his bed in our downstairs office.
I was totally impressed by NHance every single step of the way. It's a company with integrity and a heart and a fantastic service. If you need your tired wood floors vastly improved without making a huge dent in your lifestyle, budget, or for that matter, your floors (remember, they don't take a layer of wood off for these great results!), call them!

To who it may concern:
I have to write and tell you how happy I am with the total job that NHance did in my house. From the sales team to the actual workers, it has been the best home project experience I have had.
It is rare that someone comes out and takes time to demonstrate their product to the extent that Dave Lantow did. I knew immediately that I wanted my cabinets done and what a fine job they did. They look absolutely new. This happneed after two years of me trying to decide what i would do to upgrade my kitchen and i looked at all ways to do it. Then the Home Depot people suggested I have NHance out and give their wood renewal product a chance which is what i did. It saved me thousands of dollars by not replacing or having my cabinets sanded down.
I am one happy customer.
Sincerely and thank you NHance,
Carol Flores
This company did a great job on my neighbor's hardwood floor refinishing. No sanding and taking a layer of your precious wood away, just dust-free and minimal odor wet treatment to get rid of staining and and then a new varnish can be applied; extra varnish were you need it to ward off more water damage. They can do a huge area in one day and you can walk on it again by evening (albeit in socks). Dave Lantow, one of the founders came to do an estimate, which turned out to be surprisingly reasonable. He was very polite and not pushy at all. He was also honest in setting my expectations about it not coming back to brand new appearance with my water, fire and bleach damage everywhere. I like honesty and I am a realist, given the state of my floor.
On the day of the appointment, they showed up at the agreed time to within a minute. They were done at the agreed time. They were polite, respectful and did an excellent job. In fact they really tried their best to do an even more outstanding job, but some of my damaged floor was never going to be perfect again. Once they were done the floor looked really beautiful, even with the remaining imperfections. It was shinier and a tad darker than before, but actually I really prefer the warmer color now. We had to wear socks and leave heavy stuff off it for a few days so as not to damage the finish as it cured. After that we just moved all the furniture in and it looks great now. A real face lift for the room. If you want an affordable solution with minimal upheaval, this has to be the hardwood floor treatment company for you. I think this is an alternative to sanding that anyone ought to seriously consider.

David and his crews performed as advertised on my four apartments. Efficient, on time, quiet and courteous service with good results. A timely and reasonable alternative to an aging interior. Try them.
